It is difficult to ascend Rakaposhi from any direction. The northern routes are technically challenging and very high, while the eastern and southern routes are simply perilous because of the great risk of avalanches. The western routes are also the longest. Rakaposhi is also called Dumani which refers to (“Mother of Mist” or “Mother of Clouds”) as it is engulfed in clouds almost 365 days a year.
